Hamburgers stuffed with Cheese Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 pounds lean ground beef (1500 gms)
  • 1 tsp salt (5ml)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce (30 ml)
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 3 crushed garlic cloves
  • 2 very finely chopped onions, lightly fried until translucent in olive oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 3½ oz (200 gm) each of Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese
  • 2 pkg Oxo beef bouillon or equivalent
  •

  • 1 batch of white home-made bread, made into 12 hamburger buns, with sesame seed topping. (Click for recipe)
  • METHOD:

Thoroughly mix the ground beef and all the other ingredients together in a large glass bowl.

Flatten the mixture and then divide into 12 equal parts.

Cut each type of cheese into 12 equal pieces, each approximately 1/4" thick (1/2 cm) and 1½" square (4 cm).

Take one piece of each cheese, sandwiched together and wrap with a portion of the hamburger mixture, being careful that the cheese is well centred in the burger.

Form to shape and place on waxed paper on a flat board or plate.

Use waxed paper between the layers if you have to stack the hamburger patties.

Place in the freezer for 30 - 40 minutes to allow the burgers to firm up before barbecuing.

Grill on a lightly oiled barbecue grill, turning once until meat is well cooked.

    Makes 12 Burgers.
