Chocolate Brownies


A delicious, slightly lighter version of the ever-popular brownies!

Chocolate Brownies Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3/4 cup margarine or butter, softened (180 ml / 1/3 pint)
  • 1 cup sugar (240 gm / 8½ oz)
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (5 ml)
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour (110 gm / 4 oz)
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder (48 gm / 1½ oz)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds) (30 gm / 1 oz)
  • METHOD:

    Melt the margarine or butter over low heat, allow to cool slightly.

    Add the sugar and stir till dissolved, followed by the vanilla and then the egg whites.

    Mix in the flour and the cocoa powder and finally add the nuts.

    Spread the batter in an 8" (20 cm) square greased baking pan.

    Bake at 325°F or 160°C for 25 minutes until edges are firm and the centre is done.

    Allow to cool and cut into squares.
