Chocolate Brownies


3/4 cup (180 ml) margarine or butter, softened

1 cup (375 ml) sugar

3 egg whites

1 tsp vanilla extract (5 ml)

3/4 cup (110 gm) all purpose flour

1/3 cup (48 gm) cocoa powder

1/2 cup (30 gm) chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds)



Melt the margarine or butter over low heat, allow to cool slightly.
Add the sugar and stir till dissolved, followed by the vanilla and then the egg whites.
Mix in the flour and the cocoa powder and finally add the nuts.
Spread the batter in an 8" (20 cm) square greased baking pan.
Bake at 325°F or 160°C for 25 minutes until edges are firm and the centre is done.
Allow to cool and cut into squares.
