Welcome!

Well, I'm the one that's responsible for amassing this eclectic collection of recipes!  I had wanted to be a chef from around the age of fifteen or so back in England, and was talked into going for Hotel Management instead by a well-meaning headmaster. As it happened, I ended up moving to Canada and pursuing a completely different career, starting in the newspaper field, doing cartooning and graphic work among other things and ending up in retail management. I never lost my love of cooking though, and after seeing episodes of Gordon Ramsay's TV shows, I'm glad I didn't go into catering. It is a very different thing to lovingly cook for friends and family compared to the sheer pressure of immediate-deadline cooking.

This page originated as a means of getting recipes to our kids after they had left home. They would phone asking for the recipe for Chili con Carne, or Spaghetti Bolognese or something else and I would post it as an addition to my personal (rather primitive) webpage for them to retrieve and print off.

Suddenly it turned out that I was being picked up by Google and this created the impetus to work through our family volume of personal recipes and post them on the web. Ten or more years later the pages have evolved into what you see today and traffic levels exceed anything I ever imagined.

All the recipes are family favourites that have been well-tested and where there might be room for error I endeavour to provide tips on best methods (i.e. Bread making). Robert's Recipes differs from the larger big-name sites in that I don't publish an index of hundreds of recipes that I've never personally tried.

Please bear in mind that this is a family project that ended up on the internet and you are welcome here as a guest, as you would be in our home; every recipe has been tested and used by our family and friends and has worked for us. All family cooking is a matter of taste and we all have different opinions as to what is good or what suits us. These recipes are our family favourites and I can't guarantee that everyone will like them; just as you might not like everything you are served at a friend's house.

If you encounter any difficulty with a recipe, just drop me a line and I will gladly try to help you.

I am not sure whether the pleasure of these pages for me is the cooking and recipes or the fun of experimenting with page design and logos and photographing the finished meals. It makes a great combination of my interests in cooking, art and design and computers. I certainly enjoy following the tracking of the pages and seeing how many countries my visitors come from - it's almost like collecting stamps.

The site has been completely redesigned and rebuilt recently. I feel that the recipes are better presented in this new format and the recipe indexes and navigation are much improved. Larger images (with lower file sizes and yet better quality) are being used throughout and each page has additional recipe suggestions with pictures. I guess you could say that these pages will always be a work in progress!

Just to clear up any confusion: although this site operates under the umbrella domain name of www.robertsplace.ca, it can also be accessed as www.robertsrecipes.com or www.robertsrecipes.ca - just to make it easier to remember! All these URL's will take you to the front page.

Please take the time to send me an email - suggestions for improvement, comments, or even a recipe you would like me to feature: I'd love to hear from you!

My other pages: Oxney Bottom, Kent - a place of dark mystery

A long running site about a very spooky location in England that I knew well in my earlier years.

Legal Stuff

I've made every effort to ensure that the quantities and instructions are correct and clear in these recipes, and have tested every recipe personally. If I have made an error, a typo or omission, I sincerely apologize and will gladly correct it, however no responsibility can be assumed for recipe results. Please note that I am using Canadian/US cup measurements and you need to adjust accordingly for other countries. If you’d like to use one of my recipes in any form on your blog or website, you must credit Robertsrecipes.ca as the source with a clickable link either to robertsrecipes.ca or to the recipe page itself.
